"a stroll down memory lane"

Bellmore Village History

In the late 1800's, the Bellmore Firehouse operated on the corner of Pettit & Bedford Avenue following in the early 1900's with Golder's Drug Store occupying this space.  Today, Blossom Farms Deli operates their business from this nostalgic location. In 1903, the Worth House Hotel opened to accommodate sportsman from afar to enjoy fishing and hunting in the area. In 1921, Weinman's Hardware store opened its doors originally located on the east side of Bedford Avenue. In 1935, it expanded to is present location and still stands today giving the same personal and friendly service to their customers as they did back then. Other establishiments opened in the main part of town including Cohen's Department & Drug Store, which once stood on the corner of Frederick & Bedford Avenue where Kee-Zac Pharmacy maintained their business for many years before relocating to the south part of town. The Town Tavern, which only changed their name a few years ago to The Bulldog Arms and now presently, McBrides, still stands today.  Bellmore was the hub for buying between Freeport and Amityville. The town not only catered to the local townspeople but other important consumers as well including farmers, railroad commuters and the barmen.  The businesses were open until 10:00 on Friday nights and 11:00 on Saturday Nights to service the farmers that came to town from as far as Hempstead Turnpike.

Today, Bellmore Village offers a mix of retail business, professional services, entertainment and eateries. Why not take a leisurely stroll through our little village and visit the many new and old time established businesses.

We offer free gift wrapping, personal service and a friendly smile. We sponsor many family events and provide a festive atmosphere during the holidays with our extensive holiday lighting. We all thank you for you past and future support and hope to renew Bellmore Village as the place to shop and visit once again as the people did many years ago.
